National Library of Medicine Simplifies Public Access to Health Information with Vivisimo Search Platform

World's Largest Biomedical Library Plans to Boost Search Functionality for its Web Sites

Pittsburgh, PA—Vivisimo (vivisimo.com), a leading provider of search software and expertise, today announced its selection by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to enhance searching on www.nlm.nih.gov. The NLM, the world's largest biomedical library, will leverage Vivisimo's enhanced search functionality to provide quick and easy access to information on linked Web pages. Vivisimo will also enable search functionality for the NLM's consumer health web sites, MedlinePlus (http://medlineplus.gov) and MedlinePlus en español (http://medlineplus.gov/spanish/), aggregators of medical and health information from government agencies and other authoritative organizations.

By using the award-winning Vivisimo Velocity enterprise search platform, visitors of the sites will be able to search for health topics such as 'arthritis' or 'back pain,' and easily access the data from the respective site's pages. Furthermore, users can hone in on specific questions like "what causes Chickenpox?" or "what are the symptoms of Lupus?" and receive instantaneous answers.

The Vivisimo Velocity platform provides large organizations with innovative search solutions that allow users to find, access, explore and manipulate all available content, regardless of location. It combines the simplicity of consumer search with the flexibility and control of enterprise software to help organizations reap the benefits of increased user adoption and satisfaction without compromising on performance, scalability, security or the ability to configure a solution specific to its business environment.

"Citizens want a health information search experience that mirrors the simplicity of their regular Web searches. Government agencies want to provide a free information service that surpasses the private sector in the quality of its information, search experience, and design." said Raul Valdes-Perez, CEO of Vivisimo. "By marrying NLM's expertise in selecting, creating, and updating authoritative health information with ours in delivering superior search experiences, citizens will soon be very well served by the enhanced NLM, surpassing anything else out there."

Vivisimo's agreement with the NLM is its latest partnership to provide better search and discovery for consumers of U.S. government information. Beginning in 2005 with Vivisimo's introduction of a government search tab at gov.clusty.com to search political and government-related information, the company has also entered into agreements with the FirstGov Web portal (www.usa.gov) and the Department of Defense MilitaryHOMEFRONT portal (www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil). Furthermore, Vivisimo makes large public documents such as the 2006 Federal Budget, 9/11 Commission Report and Iraq Study Group Report searchable to the public.
